IMAP Email Hosting

What is IMAP Email Hosting?

The Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) is one of two standard protocols used for access email messages on the internet. Both of the aforementioned email access protocols have their uses, and are available through our hosting service. Both application layer protocols maintain their own very useful features.

IMAP shines by allowing the user to sync their own email client up with a Linux hosting server, rather than simply downloading and deleting the messages as is standard procedure using the alternative POP3 option. This allows the user to be able to keep record of all previous emails, both ingoing and outgoing, regardless of the location at which they login to the server. It is important to note that utilizing IMAP will enable you to retain important emails in the event your system crashes since they are stored remotely on the server.

How do I use IMAP?

Utilizing IMAP email access is actually quite easy. Simply download any major email client (we recommend Mozilla Thunderbird - it's free and full of features). When setting up the software, enter in the login information that you've set up in your InterWorx Control Panel, enter your domain name for the name of the server, and use the default settings for the rest. You can also utilize IMAP email hosting using a PDA phone (such as Trio or Blackberry), web access (such as Horde webmail, or a number of other platforms.
